Cicada Beetles, Hand Colored Engraving

A beautiful copper engraving with later hand coloration. A striking illustration, based almost entirely on Bloch and Lacépède's great works on Fishes, this publication was engraved principally by James Heath, an associate of the Royal Academy and royal engraver to King George III in 1794. Printed by Keasrley, Fleet Street, 1805. Dr. Shaw was a Fellow of the Royal Society, co-founder of the Linnean Society, and a zoologist and keeper of the natural history department at the British Museum in London.

Condition: Age appropriate wear. Paper toning in accordance with the print's age. Marks/stains as per photo. Wear around the edges and minor losses to paper might be present in some prints. Please refer to each prints photo to get a better understanding of the condition.
