Edwards Bat- Hand-Colored Engraving

This authentic hand-colored engraving is salvaged from the pages of Charles D'Orbigny's landmark work, "Dictionnaire Universal d' Histoire Naturelle" or "Universal Dictionary of Natural History" published in Lyon, France by R. Tanuer. Revolutionary for its time, this iconic work drew distinguished artists from across the map to contribute a one-of-a-kind natural history inspired bookplate for its pages.

This bat illustration by French artist and illustrator, Paul Oudart, is just oozing with stunning specifics. In this original 1849 engraving we can catch a detailed view of both the male and female Edward bats, alongside a profile view of their unique ear canals. Fascinating! Not to mention, each plate neatly lays out the genus, species, and gender of each illustration in both French and Latin.

The vibrant and authentic hand-coloring speaks for itself, you don't want to miss out on this beautiful 170-year old print!
