"Le Rire" or "Laughter" was the name of a successful satirical French publication that ran from October 1894 to April 1971. Founded during the Belle Epoque by French creative director Felix Juven, "Le Rire" found success in a time where people in French society were enjoying higher educations, better income, and most importantly- leisure time. Interest in the arts, culture and politics intensified during the turn of the century, "Le Rire" was the perfect concoction to satisfy such curiosities for the historical price of just 15 cents! Wow.

Published on April 14, 1900, comes this stunning graphic designed for the cover of the 6th edition of Le Rire. Stepping out in 1900s style has never looked so fashionable!

Above the graphic we can see the words "Heureux Enfants" or "Now Children!" coming from the mouth of the fed-up carriage-wielding mother. "You already know, I just love to see who's driving my car at all times!" says the older gentleman equipped with a vintage monocle, white gloves and stylized top hat as the tired rosy-cheeked child trails begrudgingly behind. We can certainly see the humor in this one! Fantastic graphics by Abel Faivre. Printed by Bertin & Cie Paris.
