Black Boy- Spanish Crate Label

With an exciting history dating back to the late 1800s, it is no wonder vintage Spanish crate labels are so incredibly collectible today!

Crate labels are commercial labels that were intricately designed and lithographed before being pasted on the ends of wooden shipping boxes. In order to attract more attention on crowded shelves, manufacturers began commissioning artists to create lively and one-of-a-kind illustrations representative of both the product, shipping origin and era in the early 1900s. Meaning, each shipping crate had the luxury of sporting a myriad of unique designs. How fascinating!

Advertising cleaning products, "Black-Boy" was the name of a successful company that sold household appliances in the first half of the 19th century. Located in Valencia, Spain, it looks like you had to be from the south to get that perfect clean! Fantastic graphics, color choices and bold artwork for the C.H.J. Raad distributing company.
