"Le Rire" or "Laughter" was the name of a successful satirical French publication that ran from October 1894 to April 1971. Founded during the Belle Epoque by French creative director Felix Juven, "Le Rire" found success in a time where people in French society were enjoying higher educations, better income, and most importantly- leisure time. As interest in the arts, culture and politics intensified during the turn of the century, "Le Rire" was the perfect concoction to satisfy such curiosities for the historical price of just 20 cents! Wow.

Designed by French artist Prejlan for the October 4th issue of Le Rire in 1913, comes this glorious galloping graphic dripping in detail. Are those the striking Pyrenees we see lining the foreground behind this donkey riding damsel?! Ah yes, it is our favorite mountain range that borders France and Spain.

'Aren't you scared of heights" says the frightened male. "This ass is only afraid of asses" replies the valiant female! Hilarious. Signed in plate in the lower right hand corner. Printed by Bertin & Cie Paris.
