The 1830s saw the rise of mass circulation magazines in America. Promoting greater consumption, these publications became popular as means to share everything from literature, philosophy, to sports and the current state of international affairs. Not to mention, they were a newfound opportunity for advertisers to capitalize on a novelty medium-- resulting in a new and attractive stream of revenue that would only encourage many others to soon develop publications of their own.

The first edition of the Pictorial Review was published in September 1899 and ran for 40 years until its last issue in 1939. Based out New York City, this American fashion magazine originally showcases dress patterns designed by German immigrant William Paul Ahnelt's company - The American Fashion Company (AFC), and was highly-sought after for it's impeccable fashion advice and topical short stories.

This fantastic artwork was designed for the 1931 October release of the publication and features a prominent women adorned in a crimson ready-to-wear coat, regal fur cuffs, and white silk gloves to boot. Not to mention, the gorgeous golden tree leaves to her exterior; what a fabulous composition!

If one thing is for certain, it is that this stunning piece of fashion history will frame beautifully.
