Fairy Tales

Fairy tales and folklore have been commercial subjects since the earliest days of mass printing, appearing on theater bills, magazine covers, and advertising long before cinema gave them a new life on screen. The stories traveled well across formats and borders, which is why the same characters turn up in a British pantomime poster from the 1920s and a Soviet film release from the 1950s. All of it was made to catch an eye and sell something, which gives even the most fanciful imagery a grounded, period quality. The works here are originals from that tradition.
