Le Rire was a French satirical weekly founded in 1894, arriving at the height of the Belle Époque when Paris had an appetite for sharp political humor and bold graphic art. The magazine drew on some of the best illustrators working in France at the time, and its covers became a showcase for the color lithography that made French print culture so distinctive in that era.
