France's Loterie Nationale ran from 1933 through the late 20th century, and for much of that time it commissioned some of the most accomplished commercial illustration in the country. The lottery's posters were a serious assignment, handed to skilled artists who brought genuine ambition to the work. Printing was typically done in stone lithography, which gave the best examples a richness of color that later offset printing rarely matched. The pieces shown here are period originals from that run.
