This gorgeous 1967 poster for Fluxfest captures a remarkable moment when two countercultural movements converged in San Francisco. Presented by Larry Baldwin of Fluxus International with artist and experimental filmmaker Jeff Berner, the March 31 event at Longshoreman's Hall brought together the San Francisco Mime Troupe, Flux Orchestra, Wildflower, and psychedelic rock pioneers Quicksilver Messenger Service for what was billed as "A Strange Evening of Experimental Events." The program combined performance, experimental film, theater, and music, bringing the international Fluxus avant-garde into direct contact with San Francisco's emerging psychedelic culture.
The poster was designed by Ida Griffin, wife of legendary psychedelic artist Rick Griffin, whose work for the Grateful Dead and the San Francisco concert scene would make him one of the defining graphic artists of the era. Ida was herself part of this creative community, and her Fluxfest design is an important surviving example of her own poster work. The piece was printed and published by Berkeley-Bonaparte, the artist-run poster distribution operation Rick Griffin helped establish in 1967 alongside other figures from the psychedelic art movement.
Griffin's design draws upon the Art Nouveau revival that shaped much of San Francisco's psychedelic poster art. Flowing female profiles frame the elaborate hand-lettered title, while a central figure in period costume holds balloons announcing "One Night Only." Her dress becomes part of the advertisement itself, carrying the evening's performers and program within its decorative folds. The limited palette of blue, olive, and cream gives the intricate composition remarkable visual cohesion.
Fluxfest itself represented an unusual meeting between the Fluxus movement, an international network devoted to experimental, interdisciplinary, and often deliberately unconventional art, and the distinctly Californian counterculture developing around music, theater, and communal experimentation. The New York Public Library describes the event as initiating a "cross-pollination" between New York Fluxus and California psychedelia, making the poster an important document of the exchange between these two avant-garde communities.
The details along the bottom further root the poster in the geography of 1960s Bay Area counterculture, with tickets available through institutions including City Lights Books and Cody's Books. More than simply a concert advertisement, this original Fluxfest poster preserves a moment when experimental art, underground theater, psychedelic music, and San Francisco graphic design briefly occupied the same stage.

Returns
Our policy lasts 14 days. If 14 days have gone by since your purchase, unfortunately, we can’t offer you a refund or exchange.
To be eligible for a return, your item must be in the same condition that you received it. It must also be sent in the original packaging.
There are certain situations where only partial refunds are granted (if applicable). Any item not in its original condition, is damaged or missing parts for reasons not due to our error. Any item that is returned more than 14 days after delivery may also be ineligible.
Once your return is received and inspected, we will send you an email to notify you that we have received your returned item. Your refund will be processed, and a credit will automatically be applied to your credit card or original method of payment, within two business days. Original shipping costs are not refundable.
