This official U.S. Army historical poster captures one of the most innovative tactical moments in American military history: the offensive deployment of Gatling guns at the Battle of San Juan Hill. Created by H. Charles McBarron, one of the Army’s foremost military artists, the composition surges with energy as soldiers advance through the Cuban grass toward Spanish positions.
McBarron’s meticulous historical research is evident throughout, from the distinctive dark blue uniforms of the era to the wheeled Gatling gun battery providing crucial fire support. Lieutenant John H. Parker’s decision to employ these weapons in an offensive role rather than primarily as defensive weapons represented an important development in their tactical use, which McBarron illustrates here in vivid detail.
Issued as part of an official U.S. Army educational poster series, this work was created to dramatize the history and accomplishments of the Army from the American Revolution onward. Rather than being produced as commercial decoration, posters from the series were intended for display within Army installations, including day rooms, clubs, and offices, where they served an educational and morale-building purpose for military personnel. Through scenes such as San Juan Hill, the series connected contemporary soldiers with the Army’s history and traditions.
Today, the poster survives as both a work of official American military art and a fascinating example of how the U.S. Army presented and commemorated its own history during the mid-20th century.

Some items which were previously folded or not suitable for rolling will be sent in a flat pack. All of our posters are guaranteed to be authentic and as described in the product description to the best of our knowledge and belief, and in good faith. Quite simply, if you are not satisfied with your purchase for any reason, simply contact us within 14 days of receipt and we'll gladly accept your return, providing the item is in the same condition as it was sent.
Returns
Our policy lasts 14 days. If 14 days have gone by since your purchase, unfortunately, we can’t offer you a refund or exchange.
To be eligible for a return, your item must be in the same condition that you received it. It must also be sent in the original packaging.
There are certain situations where only partial refunds are granted (if applicable). Any item not in its original condition, is damaged or missing parts for reasons not due to our error. Any item that is returned more than 14 days after delivery may also be ineligible.
Once your return is received and inspected, we will send you an email to notify you that we have received your returned item. Your refund will be processed, and a credit will automatically be applied to your credit card or original method of payment, within two business days. Original shipping costs are not refundable.
