A striking copper engraving of lions and tigers published in 1657 for Jon Jonston's Historia Naturalis. Matthäus Merian der Ältere was a Swiss-born engraver who worked in Frankfurt for most of his career, where he also ran a publishing house. LAter hand coloring.
