This authentic stone lithograph was executed by the French commercial artist Robys in 1934 and stands as a scarce survivor of inter war French advertising design. Posters from this period were produced for short term display and were rarely preserved, making original examples increasingly difficult to find today. Robys builds the composition around a striking bilateral symmetry. A professional chef and a domestic cook anchor each side of the image while the AXA margarine package rises to the apex of a triangular structure, giving the product unmistakable prominence.
The poster was commissioned by Société Astra, a Parisian food products company, to promote their AXA margarine at a time when butter substitutes still faced resistance from consumers. The tagline “Pour La Cuisine, Pour La Table” directly addresses this challenge, positioning the product as suitable both for cooking and for the dining table, roles traditionally reserved for butter within French gastronomy.
Printed in Paris by Établissements Marboeuf under their Affiches Elita imprint, the work reflects the technical refinement of French stone lithography during the 1930s. Its limited palette of red, green, yellow, and white delivers bold visual clarity while maintaining efficient production. Today, original lithographs from this era, particularly commercial food advertising examples in presentable condition, are far less common on the market, making pieces like this especially desirable to collectors of French graphic design.

Some items which were previously folded or not suitable for rolling will be sent in a flat pack. Quite simply, if you are not satisfied with your purchase for any reason, simply contact us within 14 days of receipt and we'll gladly accept your return, providing the item is in the same condition as it was sent.
Returns
Our policy lasts 14 days. If 14 days have gone by since your purchase, unfortunately, we can’t offer you a refund or exchange.
To be eligible for a return, your item must be in the same condition that you received it. It must also be sent in the original packaging.
There are certain situations where only partial refunds are granted (if applicable). Any item not in its original condition, is damaged or missing parts for reasons not due to our error. Any item that is returned more than 14 days after delivery may also be ineligible.
Once your return is received and inspected, we will send you an email to notify you that we have received your returned item. Your refund will be processed, and a credit will automatically be applied to your credit card or original method of payment, within two business days. Original shipping costs are not refundable.
