Sexploitation films occupied a specific commercial niche from the late 1950s through the 1970s, when independent producers found that provocative subject matter could fill theaters that major studios ignored. The promotional art that came with these films was often as bold as the films themselves, designed to sell a mood and a promise from a theater marquee or lobby display. Russ Meyer became the genre's most recognizable name, but the visual output was broad and inventive across the whole era. The period originals shown here reflect that tradition.
