The Jacques Bellenger Collection

Jacques Bellenger was a French commercial artist working in the 1930s, when Paris advertising agencies were producing some of the most sophisticated poster work in the world. His specialty was consumer goods, the kind of everyday brands, shoe polishes, aperitifs, motorcycles, that required a designer to make the ordinary feel desirable. He did it with bold, flat color and a confident graphic economy that reads as distinctly Art Deco. The period originals here come from that productive prewar decade.
