The Puck & Judge Collection

Puck and Judge were the two dominant American humor magazines of the late 19th century, and their covers and centerfolds were among the most ambitious color lithography produced in the United States at the time. Both magazines used their pages to lampoon politicians, industrialists, and social fashions, which meant their artists had to be sharp illustrators as well as sharp thinkers. The period pieces shown here are originals from that tradition.
