A cowboy hat bursts with stars and stripes, reimagined in vivid blocks of color and bold outlines. Jan Młodożeniec’s playful design announced Amerykański Zachód, the 1974 exhibition of Western American paintings organized by the Museum of Western Art in Fort Worth, Texas, and presented at the National Museum in Warsaw from January through February.
Młodożeniec, a central figure of the Polish School of Posters, was known for his graphic wit and expressive use of color. Here, he distills the mythology of the American West into a single pop-inspired icon, transforming a cowboy hat into a symbol of cultural exchange. His characteristic flat forms and vibrant palette lend humor and immediacy while remaining unmistakably modern.
This poster embodies the spirit of the Polish School of Posters, where metaphor and design elevated everyday subjects into striking visual statements. It captures both the energy of 1970s poster art and a rare moment of transatlantic dialogue between Polish and American institutions.
