La Rousette- Vampire Bat Steel Engraving

This antique steel engraving is from a set of prints published in 1831 for an educational publication titled "Oeuvres Completes de Buffon" or "The Complete Works of Buffon"--written and illustrated by Comte de Buffon and Baron Cuvier. Buffon and Cuvier were renowned in the early 19th century for bringing their acclaimed insights on the structure of the animal kingdom to the world through their teachings of natural history and comparative anatomy. Published in London, England in 1831.

The stunning steel engraving is titled "La Rousette" and shows a detailed illustration of a beautiful bat showing off its impressive wingspan.

This fantastic (nearly) 200-year old piece will make an excellent addition for any lover or natural history and educational animal art.

Condition: Good to Very Good. Age toning in accordance with prints age. Minor paper loss and separation along upper border. Minute punch holes from previous binding. Please use zoom feature to get a better understanding of overall condition.
