Brodtman Rodents- Hand Colored Engraving

The extremely rare hand-colored, stone lithograph was engraved by Carl Brodtmann for the natural history publication 'Naturhistorische Bilder Gallerie aus dem Thierreiche' in 1816. It depicts several different types of rodents, including: rats, mice, zibet, marmot, hydra, hamster, and lemmings.

Carl Joseph Brodtmann (1787-1862) was a Swiss artist and lithographer who was known for his highly detailed and accurate natural history illustrations. He was a pioneer in the field of lithography, which was a relatively new printing technique at the time.

In 1816, Brodtmann published a series of lithographs titled "Naturhistorische Bilder Gallerie aus dem Thierreiche" (Natural History Picture Gallery from the Animal Kingdom). The series included illustrations of a wide range of animals, from insects to mammals, and was highly sought after by collectors and naturalists of the time.

Needless to say, this superb 1816 engraving will frame expertly.
