Stepping Out- Roy Lichtenstein

A fan of pop art? If so, the name Roy Lichtenstein likely rings a bell. Renowned in the 70s as the "Prince of Pop Art", Lichtenstein made waves in the art scene with his unique, novelty style. In hand with Andy Warhol, Jasper Jones and James Rosenquist, Lichtenstein contributed heavily to the new art movement by pioneering "pop art through parody."

Featuring one of Lichtenstein's most iconic works, "Stepping Out" was used to advertise his April 25th 1979 exhibit, held at Castelli Gallery on 420 West Broadway, New York. Additionally, this poster was available to the public for purchase during the duration of his incredible exposition.

"Stepping Out" is a work that features the typical restrictions of Lichtenstein's artistic style: primary colors with a black and white offset, as well as thick outlines. There isn't any shading except what you would find in comic strips- i.e., dots imitating those printed on newsprint paper with an ink pen or pencil! A true masterpiece if we do say so ourselves! A fantastic piece of art history.
