Automobiles became a subject for graphic artists almost as soon as they became a product worth selling. Manufacturers, race organizers, and fuel companies all commissioned ambitious print work through the 20th century, and the results tracked the broader history of commercial design from Art Deco elegance through postwar optimism and into the bold flat graphics of the 1960s and 70s.
