Poland

Poland produced some of the most distinctive commercial graphic art of the 20th century, largely because the state-run printing system gave designers unusual creative latitude within a constrained economy. The Polish Poster School, which flourished from the late 1950s onward, treated even routine commissions, film promotions, circus announcements, and cultural events as opportunities for painterly, often surrealist imagery. The pieces shown here are period originals from that tradition.
