Sir Leslie Ward spent nearly four decades drawing the most powerful men in Britain for Vanity Fair magazine, publishing under the pseudonym "Spy." Working from 1873 to 1911, he developed a style that was sharp without being cruel, capturing politicians, judges, scientists, and aristocrats with a wit that made the portraits feel like inside knowledge. The originals from this run remain some of the most collectible Victorian caricature work in existence.
