Arc de Triomphe, Hand Colored Engraving (1842)

This fantastic monument represents the French victories in the war under Napoleon, and it also serves as an emblematic symbol of the capital of France. Beneath the Arc lies the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers (WW1), attracting visitors annually across the globe. This beautifully detailed, hand-colored engraving is from a collection named Costume Antico e Modern (Outfits on the Ages and Modern Day) by Dr Giulo Ferrario. Dr Ferrario made it his life's work to compete and document clothing, customs and culture from around the globe and across the ages. His fascinating depictions allow us a rare peak at age-old architecture worldwide. Published in Florence, Italy in 1842. Over a century and a half ago!
