Al-Aqsa Mosque, Hand Colored Engraving (1842)

Wow! Look at the color on those royals. This gorgeous piece of antique art features a stunning view of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, or Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem in the 1800s. This mosque was often referred to the as "The Temple of Solomon" and is renowned by religions old and new. This beautifully detailed, hand finished engraving is from a collection named Costume Antico e Modern by Dr Giulo Ferrario. Dr Ferrario made it his life's work to compete and document clothing, customs and culture from around the globe and across the ages. His fascinating depictions allow us a rare peak at age-old architecture worldwide. Published in Florence, Italy in 1842. Over a century and a half ago!
