Fashion & Glamour

Fashion has been one of the most consistently illustrated subjects in commercial print, from the hand-colored costume plates of the 19th century to the bold graphic covers of mid-20th century magazines. The work was driven by a simple commercial need: clothing and style had to be shown, not described. That pressure produced some of the most technically accomplished illustration of each era, with artists competing to capture fabric, posture, and mood in a single image.
