The Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco became the center of American concert poster design in the late 1960s, when promoter Bill Graham began commissioning artists to produce original artwork for every show. Designers like Wes Wilson and Lee Conklin pushed psychedelic lettering and figure work into territory that had no real precedent in commercial art. The tradition continued well past that founding era, with later artists carrying the same venue-specific format into the 1990s and beyond. All period originals shown here come from that lineage.
