Museum

Museums have been commissioning printed promotion since the 19th century, but the form came into its own in the mid-20th century, when institutions began treating the exhibition poster as a serious design project. The results attracted some of the best commercial artists of the era, producing work that had to compete for attention on city streets while representing the prestige of the institution behind it.
