Lee Conklin came up in the San Francisco psychedelic poster scene of the late 1960s, producing concert work for the Fillmore Auditorium at a moment when that venue's posters were some of the most visually ambitious commercial printing in the country. His style pushed figure and letterform to an extreme, with bodies and faces dissolving into dense, almost hallucinatory pattern. He is probably best known outside that world for the cover of Santana's debut album. The period originals here are from that concentrated run of work.
