Yugoslavia

Yugoslavia's graphic design tradition was shaped by a particular tension: socialist state patronage on one side, and genuine artistic ambition on the other. From the postwar decades through the 1980s, designers working in Zagreb, Belgrade, and Ljubljana produced commercial and cultural work that absorbed Western modernism while remaining distinctly regional. Zagreb's animation and design scene earned international recognition during this period. The pieces shown here are period originals from that tradition.
