Comedy has always been one of the hardest genres to sell on a single image. The promotional art had to signal lightness and timing without giving away the joke, which pushed designers toward exaggerated caricature, bright color, and visual slapstick. Mexican cinema of the 1940s and 1950s was especially fertile ground here, producing some of the most energetic comedy illustration of the era.
