Funk emerged in the late 1960s from the intersection of soul, jazz, and R&B, and by the mid-1970s it had its own visual language to match: bold color, heavy lettering, and an energy that graphic designers were only beginning to figure out how to contain. Milton Glaser, best known for the "I ♥ NY" mark, brought that sensibility to theatrical promotion during this period. The period originals here come from that moment.
