Horizontal

Horizontal works were never the default in commercial printing. Vertical formats dominated posters and covers because they matched the proportions of walls, newsstands, and display boards. When a designer or publisher chose a wide horizontal format, it was usually for a reason: a landscape that needed room to breathe, a panoramic travel scene, or a composition where width was part of the message. The pieces shown here are period originals in that less common orientation.
