Edwards Bat- Hand-Colored Engraving

This authentic hand-colored engraving is salvaged from the pages of Charles D'Orbigny's landmark work, "Dictionnaire Universal d' Histoire Naturelle" or "Universal Dictionary of Natural History" published in Lyon, France by R. Tanuer. Revolutionary for its time, this iconic work drew distinguished artists from across the map to contribute a one-of-a-kind natural history inspired bookplate for its pages.

The illustration by French-born lithographer Edouard Travies features an "Edwards Bat" in beautiful detail. Just look at that stunning wingspan! Not to mention, each print neatly lays out the species, genus and gender of each mammal illustration in both French and Latin.

This incredible rare image will make a fantastic addition to your home.
