Ukraine has a distinct graphic tradition rooted in folk art, the bold color work of the early Soviet avant-garde, and a postwar poster culture that developed its own visual character under state printing programs. The tension between official commissions and regional artistic identity produced work that looks unlike anything coming out of Moscow or the West at the same time.
