Constantin Alajalov arrived in New York from Russia in 1923 and spent the following decades as one of the most recognizable cover illustrators in American magazines. His work appeared regularly on The New Yorker and The Saturday Evening Post, where his warmly observed scenes of urban and social life made him a fixture of mid-century American illustration. The period originals shown here come from that tradition.
