Horror has always been a global genre, and the posters made to sell it reflect that. Studios across Europe and Latin America commissioned original artwork for each regional release, which means a single film could generate a dozen distinct images, each shaped by local printing traditions and artistic sensibilities. Polish poster artists in particular brought a surrealist intensity to the genre that had little to do with Hollywood convention. What survives from this era are period originals made to frighten, not to decorate.
