Let's All Buy Defense Bonds- Korean War

Step back in time to the early 1950s with this original Korean War, War Bonds poster, a fascinating relic from a pivotal moment in history. Titled "Let's All Buy Defense Bonds Now," this poster is a powerful call to action, encouraging American military and civilians, many of whom were stationed in Japan during the U.S. occupation, to invest in defense bonds.

What makes this poster truly unique is its origin. Designed and prepared by the TIE section of the GHQ (General Headquarters) of the FEC (Far East Command), it's a testament to the U.S. military's efforts to support the war during the Korean conflict. Also, most notably, it was printed on the back of a map- a practice necessitated by severe paper shortages during and after World War II!

Japan, where this poster originated, faced extended shortages, making such posters exceptionally scarce. The rarity of posters printed on the back of other posters or maps is notable, given the limited production and high likelihood of recycling. Wow!

The artwork itself was designed by Japanese-American artist Yatuka Ohashi, featuring Uncle Sam nailing up a sign in a captivating blend of patriotism and artistic expression.
